Scholarships and Individual Awards
If you're a member of Western Michigan University's chapter of ALD and you've maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher, you are eligible to compete for scholarships through national Alpha Lambda Delta. Alpha Lambda Delta awards over $190,000 in merit-based scholarships and fellowships each year, recognizing the academic excellence of their members.

Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarships
The Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarships (referred to as Trow Scholarships) are awarded to outstanding sophomores, to be used during their junior year. At their 2014 meeting, the National Council of ALD voted to add a $1,000 scholarship in honor of longtime ALD advisor and National Council member Kathy Beardsley. This addition has brought the total number of ALD Trow Scholarships to thirty-six, presented annually:

The National Council offers 36 Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarships of $1,000-$6,000 each! Applications for this undergraduate scholarship will be made available to chapters via the national website. Each chapter may submit one application (chapters initiating 150-299 members may submit two applicants and chapters initiating 300+ members may submit three applicants).

- Five awards of $6,000
- Five awards of $3,000
- Five awards of $2,000
- 21 awards of $1,000
Stipulations:
- Recipient must be enrolled full-time and must be working toward a degree.
- Recipient is obligated to begin and complete the year of study following the award of the scholarship.

Graduate Fellowships
Each year National Alpha Lambda Delta awards one $7,500 fellowship, eight $5,000 fellowships and fourteen $3,000 fellowships. These fellowships have been established to help qualified members obtain graduate or professional degrees. Candidates will be considered on the basis of merit.
Any initiated member of Alpha Lambda Delta who has maintained the cumulative average of Alpha Lambda Delta initiation standard (i.e., 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent) until graduation is eligible to apply. Members graduating this year may apply if they have achieved this average at the end of the first semester (or first quarter) of the current year. In determining the average of eligibility, the decimal point must be .5 or above, and not a .49 or any other average less than .5.
Selection will be based on academic records, recommendations submitted, the applicant’s stated purpose, and campus and community activities.

Other Individual Awards
In addition to the above awards, Alpha Lambda Delta members may receive the Maria Leonard Senior Book Award, which is presented by each chapter (participation varies) to the graduating ALD member with the highest GPA in each class. The award is presented as a high-quality book (usually coffee-table style) with a custom award bookplate.
Alpha Lambda Delta advisors may be nominated by their student members for the Outstanding Advisor of the Year award. Each year, the chapter whose advisor is selected as the Advisor of the Year will receive a $200 cash award from National ALD.
